Father A.G. Morice was a priest of the Oblate Order who served as a missionary to the Chilcotin Indians until 1885 when he was sent to Fort St. James, Stuart Lake. While at the Indian missions, Morice invented a syllabary for the Dene languages and printed catechisms and prayer books in those languages.
